Candy coated bean shaped sweet with a gummy centre. It's thought the Jelly Bean ancestry lies in the old Turkish Delight from the Middle East sharing as it does a silimilar flavoured gum characteristics. Our research tells us that Jelly beans were distributed among soldiers (Yankees) during the American Civil War after an American confectioner campaigned for the public to send jelly beans as a means of lifting a soldiers spirits!
