Clove Balls
Another strongly flavoured sweet for the fans of Clove Balls. Originally grown only in the Spice Islands this strongly flavoured spice was found in use in Syria as early as 1721BC! It probably came to Britain via Arabic or Portugese traders and became very much part of the British cooks' repetoire in the kitchen used in classic dishes such as apple pies. Today we enjoy them for the warm spicy flavour that's been with us for hundreds of years. Take some home now! My grandmother always kept some of these in her bag and I'd eagerly wait to be offered one. Usually we'd be waiting for a train or bus when they came out!
