Travelling with Kids
Travelling with your children can be quite a daunting task – what with all the preparations you have to make like booking rooms in a kid-friendly accommodation, packing appropriate clothes to keep them warm and comfortable, bringing necessary medicines and many others. The biggest concern for parents when travelling with kids is their impatience. Kids get bored and cranky if you make them wait in airports or pick-up points, and especially on road trips.
To avoid this situation the next time you plan your family vacation, make a checklist of all the things you need to bring to keep children entertained at all times.
Acquire separate small backpacks or tote bags to carry things that will keep them entertained such as MP3 players, hand-held video games, and other non-techie toys like board games, card games, puzzle, books, and the like. If you will allow it, you can also let your kids bring a portable DVD player along. Just make sure you bring extra batteries, charges and car chargers to power these devices which distract your kids' attention from the time spent waiting in the airport or the long drive to another town.
Assign a different bag for first aid kits and toiletries like bandages, baby wipes, paper towels, sunblock, tissues, insect repellent lotion, etc.
To keep kids warm and cosy, prepare extra clothing, jackets and socks. You can also bring a lightweight blanket which can help them sleep faster and better whenever travelling.
Food that do not spill like crackers, fruit snacks, cereals, and sandwiches, as well as bottles of water or juice to keep them hydrated.
Candies and chocolates to keep them busy by nibbling on these sweet treats should they refuse to eat food.
Travelling with kids should never be a nightmare. Planning is the key to a successful trip for everyone involved. It is advisable to book the trip two or more weeks before the desired date of departure. While you are making a check list of all the things you need to bring, place these items in containers so you do not forget to pack them. Also, make a list of the things that the children need to bring. Have them check off the items if they have already placed them in their travelling bags. This way, you will also be able to teach them how to organise a trip.
